At Scribbles, we are deeply committed to nurturing children’s emotional intelligence. We prioritise providing a secure emotional environment that empowers children to connect with and understand their emotions. Our goal is to cultivate a culture of openness throughout the nursery, allowing children to confidently and honestly share their feelings and experiences with trusted individuals. Every child is treated with compassion and kindness, and we strive to understand their behaviour by identifying potential stressors, helping them develop self-regulation skills. We ensure all children feel included and supported. By recognising each child’s unique strengths, we focus on building confidence and fostering strong, trusting relationships between children, their keyperson, and their families.
Buttercups
Buttercups are children ages 4 months to 2 years. They learn through lots of sensory and play opportunities.
Bluebells
Bluebells are ages 2-3 years and they explore using all of their senses and we work hard to provide engaging experiences for them.
Sunflowers
Sunflowers are ages 3-5 years and they spend a lot of time having fun learning how to prepare for school.
Peonies
Peonies are ages 2 1/2-3 1/2 years, continued fun through play, starting to learn basic independence.
Purcell Room
Welcome to our Purcell Room, named in honour of our much-loved colleague, Carol Purcell, whose kindness, dedication and passion for children continue to inspire us. This special space celebrates her lasting legacy within our Scribbles family.
Personal Social Emotional Development Room
Our PSED Room provides a calm, nurturing environment where children can benefit from one-to-one support or participate in small, focused group sessions. This dedicated space enables us to provide personalised learning opportunities for children who may require additional support in specific areas of their development.
The room is also used by external professionals, such as Speech and Language Therapists, allowing children to access specialist support in a familiar and comfortable environment. Each nursery room has its own carefully planned resource baskets, tailored to the age, stage, interests, and developmental needs of the children. These resources are regularly reviewed and adapted to provide targeted learning opportunities, ensuring every child receives the individual support and challenge they need to thrive. Through our PSED Room, we are able to promote children's emotional wellbeing, communication, confidence, and personal development, while providing focused interventions that help every child reach their full potential within our inclusive and nurturing environment.
Who We Are
Welcome to Scribbles, a family-run, non-corporate day nursery that feels just like home. Founded by Lesley Seville, who has dedicated nearly 40 years to the Early Years sector, we have transformed from a small village hall with just 5 children to a vibrant full-day nursery in a spacious Barley Barn North Weald since our opening in 2011. Our journey showcases our commitment to nurturing young minds and providing supportive environment for every child. Additionally, we proudly offer a smaller, term-time only Pre-School in Coopersale, Epping, to ensure a well-rounded experience for our little learners.
Lesley Seville
Welcome to my Early Years journey. With nearly 40 years of experience in the field, I have observed significant transformations—from Preschools in church halls to the increasingly complex childcare centres we see today. I obtained my Level 3 qualification in 1992, in 2020 completed my Level 5 Foundation Degree and in 2025 gained a Level 4 in Early Years Neuroscience. I take pride in the extensive knowledge I've gained through practical experience and look forward to sharing my insights with you.
